Night work and new signs

The Dundas Place construction zone might have looked less busy than usual during the day, but don’t be fooled! Crews have been working over night to prepare for the new watermain installation. Let me back track a little to explain why they switched their working hours.

In order for crews to remove and replace the existing watermain, they have to install temporary water pipes to continue to serve the businesses and residents with water. Before we could make the official switch to the temporary watermain, we had to test the pipes to make sure the water was clean and safe to drink.

On Monday, tests confirmed that these temporary pipes were good to go and ready to serve Dundas Street! This meant we could begin preparations for the new, more reliable watermain. Part of that prep work involves connecting the temporary pipes to the existing ones. To minimize disruption, watermain connection work is done in the evenings to help minimize water shut-off periods. You can expect regular construction activity to continue between the hours of 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. into next week.

While there's no construction going on over the long weekend, you'll notice the new temporary lighting that illuminates the street allowing you to navigate the construction zone with ease!

What you might also notice is some new signs on the construction fencing. This is just a taste of a series of signs that will go up over the next month. You'll start to see some familiar faces and some new phrases which we hope inspire you to walk a little farther and experience what Dundas Place has to offer.
