Rain and watermains

The week started out with a downpour on our Dundas Place neighbourhood drop-in BBQ for businesses and residents impacted by phase 1 construction. We had to move inside, but contractor and I were there, in the high humidity, with hotdogs and ready to answer your questions.

Despite the rain, crews carried on with construction work. The remaining water pipes were installed between Talbot to Richmond and by the end of the week, watermain testing between Ridout and Talbot was complete. On Friday, crews began connecting the new watermain to the City's water system (shown below). This watermain connection work will continue into next week in addition to the testing of the other watermain from Talbot to Richmond!

The crew has also been busy installing new catchbasins, which will collect all of the rainwater that falls onto our future flex street, plus finishing the rest of the telecommunication work between Ridout and Talbot. The image below shows the crew installing the telecommunication duct work at the south east corner of Ridout and Dundas.

We are still in the midst of coordinating the best possible way to thread the new watermain through all of the existing utilities at Richmond. Work of this magnitude involves multiple parties and complex planning; the diagram below will show you what we're dealing with:

With all of the digging going down on Dundas, we were happy to provide businesses with a complimentary window washing service to end the week.

Don't let a little dirt stop you from experiencing the transformation downtown! We're excited to let you know that our friends at Classic Rock 98.1 will be leading a 1 K marathon down Richmond and Dundas on Friday, June 29th. The catch? This is a walking marathon, no running allowed! Their on air personalities will walk a total of one kilometer, wrapping up at the future home of Dundas Place and making a few stops along the way to get fuel (AKA treats) from a few of your favourite Dundas Place restaurants and cafes. Find out how you can participate by visiting the Classic Rock 98.1 website.

Now, back to construction. Below is a short summary of work completed the week of June 18-25 and anticipated work for the week ahead!
