Crews get ready for Canada Day
The City of London's core construction team kicked off the long weekend with a little surprise and delight for pedestrians!
The "walking" marathon on Dundas was also a hit. On Friday afternoon, more than 40 Londoners walked through the Dundas Place construction zone, stopping at Latino Flavours, then Camelli's, Fitzrays and finally The Squire! The Classic Rock 98.1 team and guests spent their afternoon experiencing the street, the people and the delicious food Dundas Place has to offer. Read the full Blackburn News article.
We were also excited to come across some unique drone footage from a London community member this week. In this clip, you get to see Dundas Place construction, from Ridout to just east of Richmond, from above! Watch it here or click the image below.
Now, back to my area of expertise. While all of that fun stuff was going on, crews were hard at work getting the rest of the electrical work completed at the Talbot intersection. We also managed to finish taking away the old watermain and fully commissioning the new water pipes between Ridout and Talbot. That's right, this part of the watermain is connected, live and in full operation!
In light of the long weekend, the contractor also hard at work making sure all sidewalks are open. We wanted to make sure the walking space was as neat and tidy as possible for Canada Day long weekend festivities.
As part of their weekly routine to keep the construction zone clean, crews were also removing garbage bags.
If you're travelling downtown for Canada Day weekend, remember to exercise caution, obey the speed limit, respect all road signs and watch for workers in construction zones on your travels. The City has provided more tips to help you cruise through downtown construction on their website.
