Road grading and a new role for Dundas Place!

After a nice, hot Canada Day long weekend, the crew is back at it, battling the heat as they work on Dundas Place. This week, watermain testing continued between Talbot and Richmond.

Ready for Road Grading

In addition, the crew started grading the road on Dundas, from Ridout towards Talbot. This is step one in any regular road reconstruction project. Normally, the existing ground is leveled to an engineer-approved elevation, gravel is spread and once everything is compact, hot asphalt is placed on top. Since we have something special planned for the new flex street, we're doing things a little differently. The process for Dundas Place will take more time because of the unique, curbless design and brickwork required.

Keep Your Head Up

It was a short week, but there was still lots happening on site, especially at the Talbot Street intersection. Approaching a construction zone can sometimes be confusing so remember to keep an eye out for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists when crossing an intersection.

Share the Space

Our future flexible street will be a space equally shared by pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. While the street is under construction, it is important for cyclists to dismount and walk with your bicycle while on the sidewalks. This cycling rule is noted in the London Streets By-Law and since the walkway through the construction zone is already limited, it helps ensure safety for all.

New Job Opportunity

An annual operating budget was approved to support the ongoing maintenance, security and activation of Dundas Place. This week, a Dundas Place Manager job posting was released by our friends at MainStreet London! The Dundas Place Manager will be the ultimate place-maker: activating space, facilitating events, and coordinating maintenance and security on Dundas Place downtown. Know someone who's ready to manage the most exciting street in London, Ontario? The full job description is available on our website.
