By the time you ready this, all Dundas Place businesses and residents will be successfully connected to temporary water and hydro. With all of the services switched over, the crew can begin replacing the old watermain next week.
Speaking of the old watermain, the photo below really shows you what we're dealing with. That rusty-looking black pipe in the ground? Yep. That's the condition of the watermain that was going into buildings on Dundas. The pipes that route water to our sinks, taps, showers and toilets. So, if anyone ever says that the flex street is only about beautification, just keep this photo in your back pocket. As Downtown Jim would say, "beauty can only be skin deep, we need good guts too."
This week, the crew pulled an all-nighter in order to finish the final temporary water connections. Doing nightwork helped avoid some major daytime disruptions. It's always hard to balance working during the day or overnight - both have their pros and cons - but we really appreciate the patience of everyone who may have heard some noises or vibrations. There will definitely be some more night work as time goes on, but we'll continue to avoid it as much as we can.
Wellington Lane Restrictions
Beginning Monday, April 15, as early as 7 a.m., Wellington Street will be down to one southbound lane between Queens Avenue and King Street for up to six weeks to complete watermain and hydro work for Dundas Place. Left turns onto Dundas Street will not be permitted for approximately one week.
Tip: Motorists and cyclists heading south on Wellington Street can consider turning at Dufferin Avenue and try Colborne Street or download the Waze app to avoid traffic back-ups downtown.
While Phase 2 construction is underway, the first half of our flex street is getting fired up for Free Comic Book Day coming to Dundas Place on May 4, 2019. Expect costume contests, comic shop crossovers, custom cars and some other uber cool stuff spilling onto Dundas Place from Talbot to Richmond. Because of construction, the lineup for local comic book shop, Heroes, will be In Lot 5 so you can get in through their rear entrance. The line up for LA Mood will run down King Street from their shop on Richmond Street.
