Unforgettable crowds and construction zone changes
After weeks of chaos installing water services that required crews to interrupt the sidewalk, we are happy to say all water pipe installations are complete. All of the water service crossing locations were restored with asphalt towards the end of the week (shown below).
Please watch for some shifts in the pedestrian routes at the intersection of Dundas & Clarence. Pedestrians will be directed a bit further around the construction fences that will be positioned farther away from street corners at this intersection. This adjustment is needed for crews to secure the site to do excavations and water service work. This slight detour situation will last a couple of weeks.
Construction Fence Moves Further West
The construction fence has now been extended to Richmond Street and will remain this way moving forward. Fencing is needed in this area, like the rest of the construction zone, in order to complete underground work. We already did some work here in 2018 in order to speed things up this year, in 2019.
Businesses and delivery drivers have told us of the increased demand for loading zones in the core area during construction. In response, the City of London has been working to relocate existing loading zones, create additional temporary loading zones, and improve signs to clearly mark them. Please respect the signs and be courteous when using these spaces.
Now, on to the fun stuff:
