The final push, pebble seating and a successful holiday detour

The intersection of Dundas and Clarence is now open to traffic! On Friday around 5 p.m., pedestrians, cyclists and motorists were able to resume normal activity through the intersection just in time for the Lighting of the Lights, CP Holiday Train and Downtown London’s Holiday Detour. There may be a few single lane closures in this area in the coming weeks, but the intersection will remain open for the public moving forward.

As we approach the end of the 2019 construction season, stay tuned for updates from the City of London as core area corridors continue to open up.

Despite the rain that came down all day Wednesday, the crew accomplished quite a bit. Between Richmond Street and Clarence Street, the crew continued with some of the remaining brick work, in addition to new street sign installations, line painting and some hydro work.

Part of the brick laying process is a spreading a layer of sand to fill gaps in between the bricks. This week, we used a sweeper machine to massage the sand into those gaps, which can be more efficient than doing it manually, with a broom.

East of Clarence Street, some crew members focused on brick work in the sidewalk area while others helped install new pebble seating near Wellington Street. All hands are on deck as we make a final  push to get most of the work done before winter weather really hits.

A Holiday Detour = Success!
Thank you to everyone who came out to Downtown London's Holiday Detour Friday night! A holiday market in Market Lane, carolers and free hot chocolate stations throughout the core and a kindness tree filled with ornaments created by community members are just a few of the highlights.

If you were out and about on Friday night, you also would have noticed the many creative window displays along Dundas Place. If you haven't taken a stroll down all four blocks yet, the holiday season is the perfect time to do it!
