A year in review & holidays wishes from the crew

Dundas Street was closed on April 10 of 2018 and reopened as Dundas Place on December 9 of 2019. This is the first reconstruction project London has taken on that has transformed a landscape this drastically in the downtown core.

There were a lot of "firsts" for this project, such as the use of pedestrian navigation maps and advertising the area on billboards, buses and the radio to name a few. Dundas Place also became the first construction project to get its own blog and have its own social media presence which created new ways for us to share updates with the community.

There were multiple occasions where crews worked through the night and over the weekend to meet project milestones. We can't thank you enough for your patience and sleepless nights in order for us to make history. This project wouldn't have gone as smoothly if it weren't for the support of the local businesses and residents and the long hours and ingenuity from Dillon Consulting (the engineering team) and Amico Infrastructures Inc. (the contractor) to help us achieve what we had envisioned in Our Move Forward: London's Downtown Plan.

There are still a number of small items to be completed, not to mention warranty work, as we get into the spring and summer of 2020, but we are well on our way. With 13,000 square meters of concrete base and 700,000 bricks laid, Dundas Place has been built like no other street in London. 109 bollards were installed in place of curbs to separate the roadway from the sidewalk. 41 cube and 18 pebble seats were placed throughout Dundas Place in lieu of traditional street benches. 60 new street lights were installed on custom Dundas Place street light posts to improve lighting. All of these elements work together to encourage lower speeds, ongoing activation and a more comfortable and welcoming experience for people who are walking, bicycling or driving.
